Description
Leather case; case for surgical instruments.
Container for medical tools once belonging to Dr. Edwin Bentley of Little Rock. Dr. Bentley (deceased 1926, buried at Oakland) was the post surgeon at the Little Rock Arsenal shortly after the Civil War and on up to some date before the arsenal's closing in 1890. According to Dr. Nick Riegler, Jr., his father began medical practice in 1915 and was an associate of Dr. Bentley and Dr. Homer Allen Higgens. When Dr. Riegler, Jr. went into practice with his father in 1946, he cleaned out the office of these old tools and took them home. Finally, they were in the home of Dr. Riegler's sister, Mrs. George Richardson, and it was her husband who gave them to the museum.
