Description

Hat worn by Richard Alan Young, a cymbal player for the University of Arkansas Band during the 1960s.

Rounded, high-crowned box hat worn by drum major. Exterior completely covered with yellowish-white fuzzy material that gives the appearance of fake fur. At top center front is a round silver button containing a raised lyre motif. From this button hang two red fringed tassels. At either side of base are two identical buttons also silver and containing a raised lyre motif, which attach a white, plastic chin strap to the hat.

Chin strap has a metal buckle. Stiff plastic visor, white on top, green on underside, base rimmed in white plastic with a brown leather sweatband inside. Loose black lining at bottom interior. Attached to interior is a metal clip, a small part of which can be seen in the fur on exterior. A small label containing the number 49 in red is at center top interior. Black lines and numbers on interior.
