Description
"Captain's" teapot with lid.
Eggshell-colored stoneware teapot; square plan and vertical views; slightly indented base; shoulders indented, with rounded corners on neck. Wide shelf in modified hexagonal shape. Indented body forms corner handle. Spout hold located at one corner of shoulder but does not protrude past corner of pot. Slight indentations below spout.
Design is brown transfer print in florals and baskets. Modified diamond-shaped lid with round indented circle. Knob sits in middle of circle. Steam hold and two protrusions on neck. Brown transfer floral print design.
Makers mark - "Charlotte Royal Crownford" "Staffordshire England" Floral design above and below lettering in brown transfer print.
Used aboard ships, thus the name "Captain's teapot"; purchased at Red Lion Inn, Scotsbridge, Mass.
