Description
Woven, split oak basket, circular base and rim, carrying handle at top. Dome-shaped lid with short, straight sides that tuck into basket.
Basket base: center convex at top, concave underneath, formed by crossed warp splints. Outer base and sides 1/1 plain weave. Rim finished with horizontal splint reinforcements held in place by overcast splint stitching. Handle notched at ends to accommodate lashings; small thickened 'hand hold' in center. Lid peak formed by crossed warp splints, outer top and sides 1/1 plain weave. Additional splint reinforcement wrapped around junction of top and sides, held in place with splint lashing.
