Description
Drum Major Jacket.
Tail coat: white wool twill lined with white satin. Front has 5 white plastic 4-hole buttons and 5 machine worked buttonholes. Has chain stitch loop attached to ach bottom 3 buttonholes. Has 6 chrome plated shank buttons on each side for attaching shield.
Collar: stand up red wool twill trimmed in white soutache braid. Has 2 smaller chrome plated buttons on back of collar. Collar lined in black wool. Has 4 brass studs and large hook and eye. Sleeves: white wool twill. Half of cuff red felt with meandering red chain stitch and banded with black soutache braid. Each sleeve has stylized half-lyre in red felt with red net stitching and edged with black soutache braid. Back top: white wool twill padded shoulders. Evidence of 3 snaps on shoulder (2 present, 1 missing), 1 buttonhole and snap on each side of neck, 1 snap in center back.
Tails: white wool twill, lined with satin. Each side has closed pleat and same stylized half-lyre design in red felt, red net stitching, and edged with black soutache braid.
Shield: red wool twill lined with white satin. Has white felt lyre design with white net stitching, edged with black soutache braid. Inside top of lyre is white felt "A" - same stitching and edged with black soutache braid. Has 7 buttonholes on each side.
Inside coat - Label: Mfr's label and logo. Pocket in lining with label - "De Moulins Bros. & Col mfrs./ Greenville, ILL. USA/Richard Barton/chest 37-1/2 collar 15/2___ no. 65584 9(?)
