Description
Woven, split oak basket, circular base and straight sides, two opposing strap handles at top. Base center convex at top, concave underneath, formed by crossed warp splints. Outer base and sides 1/1 plain weave. Rim finished with horizontal splint reinforcements held in place by overcast splint lashing. Two opposing handles at top, notched near ends to accommodate lashings, with slight thickened point in center of handle. Shuck basket looks like a small cotton basket.
Used in corn cribs to store shucks - kept floor clean, and shucks then used for animal bedding.
